Suren was certainly one of the brightest stars on Armenia’s musical horizon in the 1990s. It almost felt as if the Armenian music scene was waiting for a lyrical tenor of Souren’s talent and caliber. Leading Armenian conductors – Ohan Durian, Hovhannes Chekhidjian among them – frequently invited Souren to perform with their orchestras. Often they developed concert programs specifically designed for him. With each new performance Souren manifested a new side of his versatile talent, continuing to amaze audiences not only with his vibrant voice, but also with the depth of his multilayered talent. Through his artful performances of liturgical music Suren also seemed to have discovered the pure source, which gave birth to and sustained Armenian music. It now flows without him but greatly enriched by his contribution.
